We all pay our taxes to ensure certain public services are there when we need them, and many believe that the state would look after them if they were unable to work through sickness or injury, and would look after their family if they were no longer able to. This is the case to a certain extent, but at a very low basic level. Currently in the UK the average salary is £26,243*.

So how will the state look after you?
  • Statutory sick pay is only £88.45 per week and lasts 28 weeks.

  • Employment and Support Allowance is a maximum of £110.75 per week

  • Bereavement Payment is a one-off, tax-free, lump-sum payment of £2000

  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance is a maximum of £117.10 per week.

You should by now start to see the value of protecting your income and your family.
